5 Sure-Fire Ways to Attract More Readers

Topics: Blog, Blogging Tips
Whether you’ve been blogging for a few months or years it can sometimes be tedious trying to come up with ways to gain a larger readership. Of course most people will tell you that content is king – which it is – there are still a few other ways you can be sure to grab your audience’s attention and have them coming back for more.
1. Easy Access
- Make it easy to access your posts. Are you providing both email subscription and/or RSS feed? Believe it or not, some still prefer the old-fashioned email. You want to be inclusive of everyone. There’s nothing more frustrating to me than not having a choice.
- Does your blog have social sharing buttons? Sharethis, AddThis, and ShareBar are just a few that will help you reach more readers instantaneously. They couldn’t make it any easier.
2. Breaking News
Try to write posts that are breaking news and relevant to your blog. People enjoy getting “the scoop” and sharing it with others. Best way to do this? Every now and again try hanging out on Twitter or Facebook in the wee hours of the morning/night and see what pops. Might just be your next great post!
3. Spotlight
How about turning the spotlight on others? Reach out to a favorite celebrity, blogger, local hero or organization in your community and show them some blog love. You can request an in-person, email or even video interview to highlight them on your blog. They’ll be so excited and will want to share the post with their friends, family, followers, etc. and you’ll gain new readers – a total win-win for everyone.
4. Collaborate
Get to know your fellow bloggers and collaborate. You can collectively choose a topic of interest and plan a blog hop or take the opportunity and guest post for each other. This is a great way to broaden your audience reach and get to know some bloggers outside your everyday circle.
5. Connect
Make sure you are connecting. Respond to comments, thank those that RT on Twitter or repost on Facebook. I know what you’re thinking. I don’t have time! But ask yourself this. If someone is taking time out of their busy day and giving you their attention, don’t you think you could at least return the favor? The RoR (Return on Relationship) will be well worth it.

@dailycurlz – Thank you so much for your support. It can be very frustrating when you want to help and encourage others but they are not willing to do the same. However, please keep in mind when others begin to have larger followings sometimes they are not as quick to RT or follow because they are filtering through so many followers and RT’s. Just food for thought.

Thanks Jennifer. I have become a little frustrated lately because I don’t seem to get many readers and even fewer commenters. I decided to make a commitment to comment on 2-3 blogs a day and see if I get any return. It’s starting to work. My readership has increased even if it’s slow. I don’t have a lot of time to read and comment but if I invest just 20 minutes in reading and making meaningful comments that seems to be helpful. I also like your tip about hanging out with Twitter late at night and getting the scoop.

Keep plugging away at it and in time I promise you’ll begin to see even more results. In fact, just by you leaving a comment here has inspired me to return the favor and visit your site!
See, it does pay off! All the best to you and always know you have our support!

You are absolutely correct, Shawna. It does take time to build readership and a following. Don’t ever be discouraged if the results don’t happen right away. But also look to this group that has commented and support each other, too. It’s a start, right? Thanks so much for stopping by!
