5 Ways to Stay Razor-Sharp Focused

Lately focus has been a five letter word that has been the bane of my existence. Finding a groove as a work-at-home mom becomes a challenge at times making it difficult to check things off my to-do list and be effective.
So with the need and desire to be more efficient and on track, I decided to confront this issue and come up with different methods to help me stay focused while juggling work, family, life and everything in between. Now I want to share those with you in case they are helpful.
Effective ways to stay focused:
Create an atmosphere that will help you focus. Designate a work area for yourself and keep it organized and tidy. I have stopped using the kitchen table, dining room table and coffee table as places to plop down with my laptop and began using the desk in my office.
Plan everything! Jot down and schedule everything pertaining to your blog. Blog post ideas, notes, milestones, etc. I am a visual person and being able to see how things are shaping out gives me better perspective and insight into my success
Stop wasting time and finish what you start. Multitasking can be so overrated. Sometimes it is so much easier and satisfying to take on one thing and just get it done.
Think in bulk. Reading and replying to emails and RSS feeds all at once instead going back throughout the day allows for less disruption.
Close those tabs. You are so not accomplishing much when you have 20 tabs open on your browser, believe me I know. Quiet the ‘noise’ by limiting the distractions.
Lastly, pay attention to what’s important. Stop trying to fit your family into your work and your work you’re your family. If you have a deadline, focus on work. If your kids, husband, partner, etc. wants your attention, stop working. As a mother to a toddler who is constantly on stalker mode I know this task is particularly difficult to follow through on but a necessary one none the less.

YES!! Having multiple tabs open always does me in. I think I’m being productive, then reality sets in.

Vianney,
I needed to do something to change my habits because I realized that I wasn’t being as productive and I know I could be.

Great tips, Jessie. It’s difficult to let go of the multi-tasking but I get so much more done when I resist the urge and just focus on one thing at a time.
