For the last two years Natalia Carter has managed and authored the Spanish food blog Comiendo En La  where she has passionately covered everything foodie in the Los Angeles area.  Speaking both Spanish and English, and running her own blog has given Natalia a great deal of experience with utilization of social media.

Her blog includes extensive restaurant reviews in all culinary areas, coverage of food festivals, and recipes for authentic Colombian cuisine.  She has developed relationships with numerous companies (i.e. Real California Milk, Smart & Final, Walmart, etc) via campaigns to reach potential Hispanic customers through original blog posts and sponsored giveaways hosted on her blog.

“Raised in Colombia, I have been making myself at home in this spectacular city as a foodie,” Natalia Carter

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging almost 2 years ago.

Why did you start blogging?

I started as a hobby. I have had the opportunity to live in different places and since I moved to Los Angeles, I fell in love with its gastronomy and the big selection of restaurants.

Do you any have advice for beginner bloggers?

The advice that I can give is that if you are thinking to start blogging is choose to write about something you feel passion for and enjoy. For me to talk about food or Los Angeles is easy and it helps a lot when I’m writing. If you are a new blogger, the best thing that you can do Is to identify who is reading your blog.  This way, you know what words to use, what are they looking for when they read the blog and what are they expecting from it.

What tips can you share on attracting new readers to your blog?

As a mentioned before, knowing your public is important. Another point, and a very helpful one, is to use and be very active on social media (twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) I have established great relationships with brands and restaurants through this platform.

What is you photography style process?

Very simple. I am not a photographer, I just have a good camera. Before, when I start blogging, I used to take pictures with my phone and the quality wasn’t good. I started using a professional camera and learned some tricks thanks to my husband, but nothing complicated. Light is always important and making sure that the dishes/utensils that you use are clean and cute.

What inspires your posts, what flavors do you love?

What inspires my posts are great experiences in a restaurant.  Making a new dish, discovering new flavours or places are special for me. I love food, so I love a lot of different kinds of flavors. I consider myself a ¨citizen of the world” – a big reason why I love trying food from different cultures.

What have you learned from blogging?

I have learned that you can do what you love If you have the discipline and the passion.

What are your goals for the future?

I would love to continue building relationships with brands and covering events in California. I enjoy this part of the country and writing about it.

Thanks Natalia!
